“Always Act In A Way To Do Good”

By Melissa Keller

After several months of closure due to Covid-19 restrictions, I was excited that one of favorite Chinese Restaurants had finally opened its doors again.  As we were preparing to leave the restaurant, the waiter brought our fortune cookies to the table, and as I opened my cookie, I smiled as I read the words “Act Always in a way to do Good”.

As I thought about that phrase, I recalled how as a Hope4Healing volunteer how wonderful it had felt to help a family in need find a mattress and bed frame to replace one that was destroyed during the Derecho.  A tree had fallen on their child’s bedroom during the storm, and the rain had seeped through the roof and made the mattress moldy.  The family had no means to financially replace this and the child had been uncomfortably sleeping on the floor.  We were able to put the “puzzle pieces” together and come up with a solution and the child had the bed replaced.  The burden was lifted from this family, and their smile was worth it all.   Hope4Healing continues to “do good” by daily helping families and individual’s in need.  Our phone calls can vary from a single mom calling in needing help locating reliable childcare to would watch her child in the evenings while she works, or a family needing help finding replacement food that had been lost during the Derecho.  Many Iowan families have struggled financially as school began, families needed assistance with back-to school clothing and school supplies and didn’t know where to turn.  Another family contacted us with needing a list of resources to seek out counseling supports to navigate some troubled waters, simply seeking to repair relationships. These are just a few examples of the lives that have been touched in recent days through our ministry.

“Doing good” is what we do and seeing the impact of Lives changed is rewarding.    As a Hope4Healing volunteer, I’m thankful that I’m making a difference, and I would like to invite you to please consider joining our team and supporting our ministry.  All financial gifts will help make a difference in the lives of others, and help our ministry to continue doing what we do ” Always acting in a way to do good for those in need”.
